Business Support Case Study: SmartLouvre

SmartLouvre Technology Ltd has been delivering architectural and buildings solutions for over 80 years. Smartlouvre Technology are the exclusive manufacturers of MicroLouvre™ here in the UK - the worlds thinnest & lightest metal louvre fabrics, with angular selective technology. With ISO: 9001, 2015 certification for quality management, Smartlouvre are committed to delivering the highest product quality and outstanding standards of service.

Smartlouvre have been manufacturing and supplying MicroLouvre™ to their customers and global distributors for several years now and is the only company in the world capable of doing so. The machines are totally unique, the product is unique and more importantly, in today’s natural and commercial climate, its performance is more comprehensive than any other sun protection product on the market.

MicroLouvre™ Solar Shading is the easiest, most effective product of protecting window glass from solar heat gain for new construction and retrofit, reducing internal temperatures by up to 20°C.

Screens are custom made and fitted externally for the thermal management and glare reduction of sun exposed windows and highly glazed structures. MicroLouvre™ has exceptional energy saving performance and natural ventilation capabilities and due to its 80% open area ensures an uninterrupted outward view, a high degree of natural daylighting and combined with its light weight, fire and heat resistance, make it uniquely versatile.

MicroLouvre™ has been tested and proven to stop up to 100% of the total solar heat gain and reduce HVAC cooling loads by up to 68%.

In addition, the tiny paper-thin louvres are manufactured from a commercial bronze alloy which is produced from 90% recycled copper scrap, has a 60+ years longevity, is maintenance free and all 100% recyclable, resulting in a highly sustainable and eco-friendly solar shading system.

Product testing

The company reached out to Greentech South (our South West Hub) because they needed help with measuring the effectiveness of MicroLouvre™. We’ve helped them access the University of Portsmouth’s Port-Eco House facility to carry out the tests, so they’ll be able to get university-backed performance data to support their product development, marketing and business growth.

Access to University facilities and Business Support

“Working with Greentech South has allowed us to access university facilities, which we have been very keen to do, as well as benefit from a range of business support from the rest of the team. Thanks to GTS, we look forward to the installation of our MicroLouvre™ Screens at the Eco House for their Solar Shading application and receiving the testing results that will be conducted at the university next year.” – Joe Reynolds, Business Development Manager at Smartlouvre Technology Ltd.
